The Stories We Tell Ourselves

Kimi and Christy discuss the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves and the impact this has on our lives. Christy shares the healing practice of expressive writing — putting pen to paper (or recording on your phone) to make sense of your darker thoughts and feelings.

This 20-minute exercise helps you put difficult life experiences into perspective and leads to a long list of benefits, including less stress, better sleep, enhanced mood, and stronger immune symptoms.

Learn about Dr. James Pennebaker's Expressive Writing Exercise here.

This episode was inspired by inmate turned entrepreneur Dave Dahl (of Dave’s Killer Bread) and his ability to write his story of redemption - both “in his head” and on the back of a loaf of bread. You can listen to his life story here.

This episode is brought to you by All The Happier,
an online course rooted in science and human story - to empower
you with real tools to find connection, meaning and joy.

I'm Laine Carlsness – the broad behind Broadsheet Design and an East Bay-based graphic designer specializing in identity, web and print. I truly love what I do – creating from-the-ground-up creative solutions that are as unique as the clients who inspire them. I draw very few boxes around what a graphic designer should and shouldn't do – I've been known to photograph, illustrate, write copy, paint and hand-letter to get the job done.
